Interiors
This work is the continuation of a series of portraits carried out between 2003 and 2005: “The Enterprise of Solitude”. In it, I explored the genre of the portrait in relation to the concept of “colonization of the lived world” described by Habermas in the Theory of the Communicative Act. He describes in it the power struggle between the individual and the “system” that surrounds him.
Inspired by the solitary figures of Peter Doig’s landscapes and by the expressionnists characters of Daniel Richter, I try to examine the effect of a hiatus between the representation of the human figure and his pictorial environment. By creating my paintings as almost abstract diagrammatic architectures where characters seem almost lost, I’m trying to define the terms of ab original pictorial ontology.
