Le courant (The Current), Mont-Roylal Ave., 2020
This project was my first floor fresco. It is a project by Mu that marks a new interest in floor fresco work. The new health restrictions forcing us to refrain from getting together, this project was for many artists around me the opportunity to get back to work, to roll up their sleeves and be creative despite the new reality.
In the summer of 2020, MU produced a series of ground markings for the Avenue Mont-Royal as part of its plan to make the street pedestrian. The organization chose to evoke La grande fresco de nuit, an event that is emblematic of the cultural offer of the sector.
With the objective of helping Montreal creators hit hard by the health crisis, MU called on some thirty artists to create works on the ground, in blue monochrome, juxtaposing different styles in a continuous graphic gesture, on the theme of the current that passes. Each artist has taken over a section of the Avenue. The result: a single work, available in thirty unique frescoes that encourage pedestrians to wander and explore art, as if carried by a current from one street corner to another. A true creative showcase for artists, this project affirms MU’s leadership in supporting the artistic community of Montreal.
