Families
Mural created as part of Cartel, l’art public, vecteur de mouvement, a project realized as part of the 50th anniversary of the City of Laval. Verticale — centre d’artistes was mandated by the City of Laval to carry out the realization of six murals across the territory.
The Mural Familles is a poetic evocation of family dynamics evolving through time and territory. The image of a family painted in colorful strokes serves as a focal point for the mural. It is flanked by two elements: a giant brush stroke and a glass star, evoking two structural elements of a family’s history, culture and modernity. In the background, a steel structure shelters blue rectangular volumes that seem lost in this struture: old photographs of families. In the foreground, white shapes are strewn in disorderly fashion, evoking construction materials or an ice jam: two common realities for the inhabitants of Laval.
Like a montage of superimposed planes, the different elements of the composition are treated differently. This creates a colorful mural whose meaning is given by personal interpretations.
