Paperbag — The Order Of Things

This series of drawings were created directly on paper bags and were part of a group show that marked the opening of the Madame Edgar Galleryt + Shop in 2005. This series was also made as a part of another personal project started in 2004 : a visual interpretation of Michel Foucault’s 1966 book The Order of Things. In the book, Foucault examines the various changes of episteme (from greek “knowledge” or “science”) which mark the passages from ancient times to Classic age, then from Classic Age to Modenity :  general grammar becoming philology, analysis of the values becoming political economy and natural history becoming biology. Each section of the book is represented by one or two drawings. For this series of bags, I freely interpreted the chapter VI titled Exchange.
